    "Greatest Hits Volume Two"

The Bellamy Brothers is most famous for their crossover (pop/country) hit, "Let Your Love Flow," likewise other well-known songs on the Country chart: Songs like "If I Said You Had A Beautiful Body Would You Hold It Against Me" (which is a great "play-on-words" title...), "When I'm Away From You," and "Kids Of The Baby Boom."

The Brothers' Greatest Hits Volume Two features songs that may not be familiar to most Rock fans, but Country fans of Howard and David Bellamy would know these songs more thoroughly. Of the 10 songs from this set, only three topped the Country charts:

  • When I'm Away From You,
  • I Need More Of You,
  • Too Much Is Not Enough

All 10 songs were recorded during 1984 to 1986. The Bellamy Brothers music is somewhat different in sound than the Nineties' Country, as most of their songs have a more pure country sound as today's rock/country sound. The Bellamys are compared to other acts are Don Williams, Jimmy Buffett, and Alabama. Both Alabama and The Bellamy Brothers' music defines country music without the "after-taste" of rock music in their songs. Sure, there maybe some songs with a somewhat pop sound (as in Buffett's music), but in most cases the songs featured here do have one particular sound and not anything else, and that is Country.

Some songs that really stand out on this album:
When I'm Away From You is probably the only song from my memory that I can say "Oh, I remember that one!" This song is a true country-sounding song. The chorus of Feelin' The Feelin' has the same aura as the chorus heard on "Let Your Love Flow." Old Hippie has cute lyrics, and the #1 hit Too Much Is Not Enough has a more pop sound and has a Diana Ross & The Supremes' "You Can't Hurry Love" bounce.

The Bellamy Brothers Greatest Hits Volume Two covers the later years of the brothers' work, as Volume One features the more famous (and better) tunes that were popular. Most fans first discovering Howard and David Bellamy may just pick up the Volume One set, and enjoy those. But for the die-hard country fan, The Bellamy Brothers music is enjoyable, and can also be enjoyed as much as today's country. The Bellamys just released a box set, and for the real die-hard Bellamy fan, the box set has all the big hits (Volumes 1 & 2) and more.
