Masters Of Classical Music "Volume 4: Johann Strauss"
The Masters of Classical Music released a series of Classical CDs,
showcasing many of the popular 19th-Century composers. Our first look from
this series is Vol. 4: Johann Strauss. Strauss's music is not a strnager to
WSVNRadio, as the 2-disc
Reader's Digest Favorites From The Classics: Johann Strauss, Jr.
was reviewed last year.
Excerpts from "Die Fledermaus" opens this CD, by the RTL Symphony,
conducted by Kurt Redel. Clocking at nearly 20 minutes, all seven parts
are here, from its 1) Introduction, 2) Bruderlein und Schwesterlein, 3) Mein Herr,
was ditchten Sie von mir, 4) Im Feuerstrom der Reben, 5) Mein Herr Marquis,
6) Trinke, Liechen, and 7) Finale. Very well-done, the excerpts bring a warm
feeling, and easy to listen to while working at the office. Another easy
relaxer is Wine, Woman And Song" by the Vienna Strauss Orchestra,
conducted by Joseph Francek. They also orchestrate the next two songs,
the happy go-getter "Tritsch Tratsch Polka" and the popular "Blue
Danube." The RTL Symphony with Kurt Redel returns with the Introudction
of "The Gypsy Baron," a very laid-back piece, likewise "Annen
Polka" by the Vienna Strauss Orchestra with JOseph Francek. "Vienna
Blood" (not on the Reader's Digest set) is also an easy, laid-back
piece, as "The Gypsy Baron: Einzugsmarsch" is a bit more energetic.
Even though the Reader's Digest set is much better, Vol. 4
Johann Strauss is a quick introduction to Strauss's music. The compositions
heard here are pretty much basic, yet the Reader's Digest versions do
have a better sound and energetic style. For anyone not associated with
Classical music in general, the Vol. 4 is a good start, yet for a more broader
musical approach, the Reader's Digest would be a better choice.
