    "Piano By Candlelight"

    As advertised on TV...

This 2-disc set has to be the ultimate for the romantic dinners. Good music for good food, soft lights, and great lovin'. Time-Life advertised Piano By Candlelight, 40 songs ranging from the 1960s to 1980s favorites. For practically every music fan of these decades, many of these songs will easily be recognized, played on the piano and apprpriate accompaniments. Recently on WSVNRadio, Jackie Gleason's For Lovers Only and Roger Williams' Roger Williams' The Greatest Popular Artist/The Artist's Choice were reviewed, and are easily compared to Piano By Candlelight; beautifully classical type music. Rick Wakeman's classical albums also comes to mind as well.

The pianist on this album is Carl Doy, as Time-Life briefly described him: "New Zealander Carl Doy studied at the Royal College of Music in London before establishing a reputation as one of the world's top keyboardists and composers. As producer, arranger and performer of Piano By Candlelight, he has earned multiple gold and platinum record awards in Australia/New Zealand, Europe and Asia."

40 wonderful melodies are all here, in great piano form. Classics such as Barbra Streisand's "Evergreen," "The Way We Were" and "People." Bette Midler's "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "From A Distance." Traditional favorites are here, such as "Unforgettable," "Georgia On My Mind," "As Time Goes By" and "My Funny Valentine." Movie favorites are also here, with themes from Endless Love, Against All Odds, and Ice Castles, likewise from Broadway plays such as Cats, Les Miserables. There's even a very nice medley of the Carpenters' music.

The whole collection is a must to listen to. For the romancers in all of us, it's a truly wonderful colleciton of well-known songs to enjoy for a relaxing evening. Carl Doy can be found at:
