    "See If I Care"

Gary Allan, a Country performer, has made his name well on the Country scene. He had already accomplished one #1 Country hit, "Man To Man" from his previous release, Alright Guy, (fourth album of his career). His next release would be even better -- See If I Care would feature two more #1 hits to his name: The fantastic ballad "Tough Little Boys" and the great Country/Pop classic, "Nothing On But The Radio."

The album leads off with a good honky tonker, "Drinkin' Dark Whiskey." Gary Allan's voice stands out on the pleasant Country tunes "Can't Do It Again," "See If I Care," "Songs About Rain," "I Can Love You," "Don't Look Away." The true standout is his #1 hit, "Tough Little Boys," one of Country's best ballads, both in sound and lyric writing.

The honky tonk style returns with "Guys Like Me," and the pleasant Country style returns again with "You Don't Know A Thing About Me" and "A Showman's Life."

What stands out is the vocal style of Gary Allan. Described as "raspy and unpolished," his influences are the Bakersfield sound (Buck Owens) and Merle Haggard. He prefers his Country songs to have soul and real meaning. Soulful is a good work for his music. See If I Care is a very pleasant, easy-going Country album. There are some great songs on here, and the others are just as well written and received. Despite his third wife's suicide in 2004, he has released three more albums, where one is a Greatest Hits package. Hopefully we'll hear more #1 tunes from Gary Allan -- a very well-crafted Country artist.
