    "The Gift"

WSVNRadio welcomes much more Christian music to its station this week, as we now include albums/tracks from the #1 Christian Albums chart, (1980 to the present). On that note, it is an honor this week, to review Kenny Rogers' 1996 release, The Gift. This album is a Christmas album, (although it is quite early for that season; it was incredible to learn that there were many #1 Christian albums that were Christmas releases.

What makes Kenny Rogers' The Gift even more excellent, is that fact that this album can probably be played at any time of the year, even though the songs reflect on the religious aspect of the Christmas holiday. The one song that definitely stands out as Christmas, is the "The Chosen One Montage" -- a medley of well-known Christmas tunes: "The Chosen One"; "Away In A Manger"; "O Holy Night"; "Silent Night"; "The First Noel"; We Three Kings & Joy To The World"

Country artist Wynonna helps out on "Mary Did You Know." Other guests include The Katinas, (a family group) on "Pretty Little Baby Child." the group GLAD helps out on a re-recording of a Christmas song that Kenny Rogers performed on his first Christmas album, the song "Sweet Little Jesus."

Every song is a standout. It is a treat to listen to Christmas-related themes, other than the standard songs about Santa Claus and his reindeers, and other favorite Christmas characters. The Gift is an album of Christmas songs related to Jesus, of which we celebrate Christmas of his birth.

Throughout his entire career, Kenny Rogers has recorded incredible music, in the genres of Country and Christian. He makes his debut on WSVNRadio, as Album Pick of the Week. A good choice indeed, this is an album that will be enjoyed by all Christians, and all of God's children.

Once again, we are proud to include good Christian music to our format. Listening to the local Christian station here in Illinois, Shine.FM 89.7, today's Christian music is truly enjoyable. Christian music (or otherwise known as Contemporary Christian) has been around for decades. Many Country artists have been inspired by Christian and Gospel music. Elvis Presley is just one of many. WSVNRadio looks forward in reviewing albums from the Christian (and Gospel) genres. Our online radio station is planning an entire day (Thursdays), dedicated to Christian Rock / Contemporary Christian music. We currently have all-Day Wednesdays dedicated to Country, and every Friday (all-day) we provide tracks from our Album Picks of the Week throughout our history (1987 to the present). [NOTE: This was our schedule at the time of this review, when our station was on Live365.com.]

Kenny Rogers' The Gift lives to its name. It's a Gift to listen to, and enjoyed throughout the Christmas holiday season.
