    "Circus"

Britney Spears returns this week on WSVNRadio, with her 2008 release, Circus. By this time, my thoughts on Britney's career in music was pretty much that, of Mariah Carey's: Her time has passed. Sure, both "divas" had their ups and downs, yet their music, just as many others of today's music, just basically all sounds the same, in 21st Century Pop Music.

With that being said, Britney's career with hit songs returned to the #1 spot with "Womanizer." It had been almost 10 years since her first #1, the "innocent" Baby One More Time." On the album charts however, her sucess there was more promising than her hit records. Her #1 albums achieved: Baby One More Time (1999), Oops! I Did It Again (2000), Britney (2001), In The ZOne (2003), and Circus (2008). Britney maybe better to look at, then try and digest listening to her music.

Don't get me wrong, today's music does appeal to some, most especially to the youngsters. But for us old folks, this music just sounds the same as other popular artists. (Comparing songs from Circus to that of Ciara, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry. (Not to knock these three artists either, they, as well as Britney are "talented," yet it's a talent for today's music, and for those who really truly enjoy this kind of music.)

"Womanizer" has its pulsating rhythms, and it was Britney's second #1 hit of her career. The title track has another #1 hit in my mind when I listen -- Ciara's "Goodies." "OUt From Under" is better than the first two tracks, having a slow-paced musical style.

The next two tracks could easily be heard as one: "Kill The Lights" and "Shattered Glass." Justin Timerblake comes to mind with this kind of musical style. Katy Perry comes to mind on "If U Seek Amy."

"Unusual You" is more appealing, but the next three tracks simply has the "UGGH" factor, and can easily be avoided: "Blur," "MMM Papi" and "Mannequin." The next track, however is much better than these three: "Lace And Leather."

"My Baby" would have to be (at least) one track that can be enjoyed, as it has a ballad style of Mariah Carey -- "My Baby. The last song is a bonus track, and despite the name, "Radar," it's another one to skip past the radar on.

Britney Spears' "Circus" is somewhat of its title, where a bunch of songs get all together, as the upbeat numbers will only be appreciated by those who truly enjoy this kind of music. I can't see many of these songs being played on the radio (or even on my shows). "Womanizer" yes, and possibly the ballad "My Baby." But the rest can be passed on. Again as mentioned, Britney Spears is definitely pleasing to the eyes, but for her music on Circus, these songs can take its act and move to another town.
