    "Horizon"

Eddie Rabbitt returns this week, with his original album from 1980, Horizon (Elektra Records). The main reason for getting this album is the fact that in many cases, it is best to get the original albums by the orginal artists, for certain songs. This was the case of one of Eddie's most popular (and memorable and favorite) hits, "Drivin' My Life Away." I had the 45 of this song, and the flip side is one of the most beautiful Country songs I've ever heard. And, of course, you will never see this flip side song on any Best Of or Greatest Hits collection. This song is entitled "Pretty Lady."

Not only would "Drivin' My Life Away" would be a memorable hit for Rabbit, Horizon also had another great hit of his, "I Love A Rainy Night." Eddie Rabbitt was one of Country's greatest talents. Not only as a singer, but songwriter. (Elvis' "Kentucky Rain" was penned by Rabbitt). He also wrote "PUre Love," recorded by Ronnie Milsap.

Horizon has great, Eddie Rabitt Country songs. One of the inspirations of this album was Rockabilly, the Early Elvis sound. This can be heard on "747" and "Short Road To Love." (Another artist the comes to mind is Ricky Skaggs.) "Rockin' With My Baby" is one of those "deep cuts" you probably don't hear enough of, as it has a more Blues sound, than that of Country.

The remaining of what you would expect to hear of Eddie Rabbitt's style. "I Need To Fall In Love In Love Again" is another great song, and probably another one you don't hear enough of. Then there's the nice and easy style of Eddie, on "So Deep In Your Love," and "Just The Way It Is" "What Will I Write" is more mellow, yet tends to be a little darker in what you would normally hear in Eddie's music, and Country in general.

Eddie Rabbitt wrote, or (in most cases) co-wrote all the songs on Horizon. His original albums are most likely the best to get, but unfortunately, many of his original albums are sold at ridiculous high prices. (Heck, he doesn't even have his own main website.)

He died of lung cancer in 1998, and left behind a legacy of great music. His albums were re-released by American Beat Records in 2009, but were later discontinued. They have yet to be re-released again, or to be available as a box set. If you can find any of his original albums at affordable prices, they would be well worth it. Until then, there are many Best Ofs and Greatest Hits packages (and the likes) to get. I'm sure there are alot of other album gems we have yet to discover, like "Pretty Lady." Again, this song is one of the most beautiful and loving songs to listen to. Sometimes the B-sides of hits are just as enjoyable.

He may be gone, but definitely not forgotten. His original music needs to be discovered and rediscovered again. Eddie Rabbitt is definitely missed.
