    "You Said You'd Call Me"

Skyla Spencer is another member of our WSVNRadio Hall of Fame, Volume 17. Her song on Volume 17 is the title track of her album, You Said You'd Call Me. A country artist, he country sound is not "Today's Country." Instead, her country sound is definitely how Country music should sound like. Honky-tonk'ish, Country line dancing, this is an artist who definitely knows how to record Country music.

The title track is pure Country, likewise, the next track, "Chuga Choo Choo." "If I Were Rain" turns in a different direction; as it is a mellow Country tune, easily fitting the Country format. A ballad, for sure, and a pure Country one. "He's A Bad Boy" returns back to the honky-tonkin' Country. "Wild Dreams" -- another good, upbeat Country tune. Another good Country ballad, for "Why Do You Do This To Me."\ "Oh What A Day" -- another Country rocker! "You Make Me Believe" -- another beautiful Country ballad! (This one just may be the best ballad, from the others; it reminds me of another ballad, by The Coors, with Bono - "When The Stars Go Blue".

More of what Country music should sound like -- "In Paradise" -- it's similiar to a Country'ish Linda Ronstadt song ("Poor Pitiful Me") Another good ballad follows, "One More Chance," as it is a very pretty song, as in Boston's "Let Me Take You Home Tonight." The album closes with "Reach For The Stars," another good Country-sounding tune, easily fitting the traditional Country format.

Skyla Spencer's You Said You'd Call Me" IS Country music. This is what Country should be sounding like today. She may not be easily recognized, yet she should be, being an independent artist.
