"The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux"
The World According To ... Roger Waters... We all know how Pink Floyd (with Roger Waters) is no longer. Roger Waters
didn't want the remaining members to use the Pink Floyd name. He lost. David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright
continued, recording new albums under the name "Pink Floyd." Roger Waters has had his solo albums, and his "re-creations"
of Pink Floyd's The Wall, and The Dark Side Of The Moon. Roger Waters' The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux is a new
version of the classic Pink Floyd album. Waters' version is very much different - it's much darker, there is narration
throughout the album, of dark tones and measures. The singing is there also, but very much different than the original.
Is this how Roger Waters wanted the album originally? I highly doubt it. With how he became, from the breakup of Pink
Floyd, he reflects on darker stories, darker lyrics. It's obvious, he didn't take the breakup well. And the Redux
shows it. The narration is dark, however, the music is dramatic, and quite impressive.
"Speak To Me" has narration throughout. Dark. The singing on "Breathe" is not really singing.
William Shatner could have easily narrated this album. There is narration more than singing throughout the album, yet
the singing is more towards the end. More narration throughout on "On The Run." The singing (or is it) on
"Time" is quite moody, but done well. "Great Gig In The Sky" continues the narration.
"Money" takes a whole different turn and direction, than the original. It's quite impressive, having a dark
atmosphere and all. Musically, it's theatrical, and it has a kind of a darker sound of jazz. "Us And Them"
continues the theatrical (kind of jazz) sound. Lyrically, it's narration (more or less), and mysterious. It has an
incredible build into "Any Colour You Like." Very impressive. "Brain Damage" is just as mysterious as the
original. Likewise, "Eclipse," yet much more mysterious.
Roger Waters' The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux is an audio experience; an audio book. The music throughout is
simply incredible. "Easy Listening" meets The Dark Side Of The Moon. Both the narrations and singing blend well.
The standouts: "Time," "Money," "Us And Them." Impressive throughout the album.
The Dark Side Of The Moon Redux achieved mixed reviews. It is far different than the original, obviously.
(It's darkness.) For the negatives, it's mostly because of how the breakup with Waters occurred. Although Richard Wright
passed away, the remaining members Gilmour and Mason will most likely never reunite with Waters. Pink Floyd continued on
without Waters, and for the most part, both Pink Floyd and Roger Waters moved on. Roger Waters' solo albums have made
their marks - Radio KAOS was a very good album for Waters, and as for the Redux being different, it's an
audio experience that is quite impressive and a different approach to what we are so used to, of the classic original.
