Yes, as if many can actually admit to having Debby Boone's "You Light up My Life" single in their collection
when it was a huge it... C'mon, you had it, didn't you? Yes, I did. But not only Pat Boone's daughter would have the
biggest hit single in history (at that time), she did have OTHER songs in her career. A #1 Country song, "Are You
On The Road To Lovin' Me Again" (1980, 1 week). Like her famous Dad, she would also record Christian music, having
four Top 10 Contemporary Christian albums. Curb's compilation of her Best Of has 10 songs from the years
1977 to 1986.
"You Light Up My Life" begins the compilation, as the original album of the same name received a 40th
Anniversary Expanded Edition. Yes, I am admitting I had the 45 of what would be her biggest of her career, "Hasta
Manana" was the B-side to "You Light Up My Life," as the B-side was at catchy tune, and a must for the
collector, ME. The Anniversary Edition would include the original tracks from the album "You Light Up My Life"
and bonus tracks by the Boone Sisters and other Boone family members.
"Everybody's Somebody's Fool" (the Connie Francis song) is next, as it has a more County feel. Another
remake, is "Baby I'm Yours" (from the album You Light Up My Life covered in the 1960s by The Shirelles,
and The Beatles. It's a very good cover. "God Knows" (from her second album Midstream would easily
the Adult Contemporary format, as well as Christian. It has a comparison to the music of Olivia Newton-John. "When
You're Loved" was from the movie soundtrack of The Magic Of Lassie." It's another good song for Adult
Contemporary. As good Country of the 1980s would sound, her #1 Country hit "Are You On The Road To Lovin' Me Again"
(from her fourth album Love Has No Reason is another very well done song - Country song. And another Connie
Francis remake, and easily another good Country sound, "My Heart Has A Mind Of It's Own" (from her third album
Debby Boone. More good Country has "Free To Be Lonely Again"Love Has No Reason. "Perfect Fool"
(from her sixth album Savin' It Up) would be another Country album, yet this album would not be as successful as
her previous Country albums. Yet, "Perfect Fool" has a good Country sound, like the others heard on this
compilation. Ending the album is another song from a movie soundtrack - The Promise. It's entitled "The
Promise (I'll Never Say Goodbye)". It's a beautiful song, and has a comparison to Barbra Streisand.
Most of the songs were from Debby Boone's first six albums, soundtrack songs, and one unreleased. This makes it
a good compilation for the Debby Boone collector, where most would already have the six albums, but the extras on
The Best Of Debby Boone makes it better. And for those discovering Debby's music, this Best Of would be a
great start. Her studio albums were 12, and I'm sure her Christian albums are the ones that stands out the most. And in
hearing her Country songs on this compilation, I'm sure her Country albums would be also to discover. But she will always
be best remembered for "You Light Up My Life," which remained at #1 for a total of 10 weeks, in 1977. For those
who actually enjoyed this song, many disliked it, especially the Rock and Roll DJs, that HAD to play the most popular
songs on their shows during it's popularity. (Many DJs would just turn down the volume while it was playing, until the
end.) But, listening to "You Light Up My Life" 40 + years later, it should does sound better, than what the
"popular songs" we hear today. Debby Boone or Rap? You be the judge on that one.
