Laura Story is a Christian artist. Her 2011 release, Blessings reached #1 on the Christian Albums Chart for three weeks, and the title track was #1 on
the Christian Singles chart, for four weeks. The title track won the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song. Blessings was her second
major-label release of her career.
Story began her career in 1996, when she became the bass player in the band Silers Bald. They released four independent albums together. By 2002, she was
suggested to record a solo album. She left Silers Bald, and recorded Indestructible (independent). Two years later, the title track (Indestructible)
was recorded by popular Christian artist Chris Tomlin on his album Arriving. Tomlin's version reached #2. Tomlin's version also appeard on the compilation
album Passion: How Great Is Our God, and the Christian group Avalon recorded their version for the WOW Worship 2006 compilation. The year 2005 saw
her second independent release, There Is Nothing. In 2006, she signed a major-label contract, with INO Records. Her third album (and first major-release)
was Great God Who Saves. By the year 2010, she was norminated for a Dove Award for Female Vocalist of the Year, at the 41st GMA Dove Awards. Blessings
was released in 2011. Blessings would be her most popular album to date. She has released three more albums, and an EP.
It is easy to see and hear, that Blessings is a very, very good Christian album. Many of the songs prove this. The first two tracks, "This Is The
Day" and "Friend Of Sinners" are two great Christian Rock(ing) tunes. It fits the common Christian Rock sound, of many other popular Christian Rock
artists. ([Chicago's] Shine.FM's format of Christian artists they play comes to mind.) The next track, "You Are Love" slows down the musical pace a bit,
yet it is another good Christian song. However, the first two tracks are in a more "rocking" fashion than this one. No complaints, it is still, another good song.
"What A Savior" continues the "Good Christian Rock," as the title track is more of a ballad, with great piano. And two songs come to mind, referring
specifically to the piano: Rascall Flatts' "God Bless The Broken Road," and Cyndi Lauper's "Time After Time." As great as those two compared songs
are, so is Laura Story's "Blessings." "Your Name Will Be Praised" returns to the "good Christian Rock," as in the first two songs, from this album.
"One Life To Lose" is a nice, pleasant tune. The great piano returns on "Prodigal Song" and "Remember." Both are good Christian ballad-sounding
songs. The last track, "Faithful God" blends great piano with the "good Christian" and Christian ballad mix.
This is great Christian music. It has great Christian Rock, great Christian ballads. There should be more Christian music like this, with positive Christian
And somehow, if Taylor Swift were to record a Christian album, this is what it would sound like for her. Somehow, Laura Story's voice resembles Swift's,
however, Laura Story's voice is far better, than Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift started out as Country (which in my opinion, she never really sounded Country).
She would later change to the Pop sound of the common musical genre. And if even so, Taylor Swift's "Country" became "today's Country." That is, County music,
that really ISN'T Country-sounding, comparing to that of how great Country sounded throughout the early decades of Country music - The 1940s to the 1990s.
(Enough about Taylor Swift..., please...)
Laura Story's Blessings is quite right, as it's title. This is a blessed / blessing Christian album. Hear what Christian music sounds like, all in a
positive way. It's a far better approach to what we are used to, of the common Pop, Hip-Hop, Rap genres. Christian music should be recognized more. Laura Story's
Blessings is a good start, if not continuing, what Christan music is all about.
