Norah Jones returns this week, with her second album on the WSVNRadio site, Day Breaks (2016). This album would become another #1 Jazz album for her. Her first album reviewed here.

"Burn" has a great Jazz feel, equally what was heard on her debut album Come Away With Me. "Tragedy" was one of three singles from the album, and it has a great Pop/Jazz feel. It's easily heard to be a hit single. "Flipside" was another single, and it's more of a Rock meets jazz style. (Maybe lie Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out" [?] It's the piano that fits for both.) "It's A Wonderful Time For Love" returns back to the great Jazz sound, and it has a feel similar to Van Morrison's "Moondance." "And Then There Was You" is another great (lounge) Jazz track, and it compares to Diana Krall; as she could have easily recorded such a song as this.

"Don't Be Denied" not only is a Jazz track, it could also pass for Country; it's another great tune. And with it's "Country sound," it was written by Neil Young. He had written and recorded many songs that could be categorized as Country. "Day Breaks" (the title track) is quite different than the common-Jazz heard on the previous tracks. It's more of a Rock track, rather than Jazz. But, it's different enough to enjoy it's sound (and it's mystery about it), and it matches the other tracks, never doubting the song itself. And the sweet sounding Jazz sounds returns (again) on the next track, "Peace." As it's title, it's a very peaceful Jazz tune, and just as exceptional, comparing to her album Come Away With Me. "Once I Had A Laugh" is a lively Jazz track; another great sound in Jazz.

"Sleeping Wild" defines Jazz... Cool Jazz. "Carry On" was another single, and it's defines as another great Jazz track. Ending the album is "Fleurette Africaine (African Flower)," written by Duke Ellington. It''s quite moody, but then again, it just defines another great Jazz song, matching the other tunes from the album.

Norah Jones' Day Breaks certainly deserved to be another #1 Jazz album in her career. It was a album where she wanted to return to the sounds heard on her Come Away With Me album (which, should be, in EVERYONE's collection). Yes, there are many songs from Day Breaks to compare to Come Away With Me, which makes it a great Jazz album, and another great album in Jones' career. Not only is the Jazz sounds great, the instruments also defines great sounding Jazz - Horns and Piano, reflecting the common (great) sounds heard in many Jazz recordings, past, present, and future. Norah Jones does it again, with an amazing Jazz album - Day Breaks. It's another great listening experience in Jazz music.
