Selena Quintanilla-Perez, better known as Selenea, was a Tejano (Spanish) singer, songwriter, spokesperson, model, actress, and fashion designer. At the time of her album Dreaming Of You, she was becoming more recognized to the American music scene. Dreaming Of You would become her crossover album. Her previous albums were of Spanish and Latin language. According to many, Dreaming Of You would become the start of a big (and most likely successful) move in her music career. Sadly, she was killed by her manager, YOlanda Salvidar. Warned by her father, Selena continued having her manager stay in her business and career. Apparently, Salvidar was embezzling Selena's money, as her father investigated.

Days before Selenda's death, Salvidar refused to hand over bank and financial records. Salvidar claimed she had been sexually assaulted in Mexico. During the physical examination at the hospital, she examination was brief, but she did have a gynecological exam, nor a rape kit. At the Days Inn hotel in Corpus Christi on March 31, 1995, Selena met with Salvidar, demanding the financial papers. Salvidar refused, and pulled out a gun from her purse, and pointed it at Selena. As she was fleeing from the room, she was shot in the right lower shoulder, which caused a severe injury to her artery. She proceeded to the lobby, severly wounded, leaving a trail of blood. At the lobby, she informed to the clerk that salvidar had shot her, and her room number. Salvidar was close by and still angry. She tried to get away in her pickup truck. After a 9-1/2 hour standoff, Salvidar surrendered. Selenda died on arrival to the hospital.

I was watching a documentary on Selena, and it was mentioned that after the release of Dreaming Of You, she was "going to be huge." What would be her last album were songs sung in both English and Spanish. Her previous albums were of the Spanish language. "I Could Fall In Love" is the song that I most remembered from this album, as well as the title track. These two songs were the best highlights from this album. As for the rest, this album is a great assortment of Pop, R&B, Latin and Spanish.

Opening the album is the hit "I Could Fall In Love," a great ballad, and a song that can make anyone fall in love with. There are many songs here that captures the R&B style in today's music, as "Captive Heart" is a song that has the R&B style of many, including Jennifer Lopez, who portrayed Selena in the biographical movie. More of the Pop and R&B has "I'm Getting Used To You." Latin, mixed with R&B and Pop gets the next track, "God's Child (Baila Conmigo)," as it is similar to another song that would be popular years later (1999) in the Latin style, Santana (with Rob Thomas) -- "Smooth."

The title track is another great ballad, and has a slight similiarity to another song, The Human League's "Human." R&B is the main sound of "Missing My Baby," Latin, for "Amor Prohibido," R&B again for "Wherever You Are (Donde Quiera Que Estes)." As the previous two songs have Spanish titles, so does the rest of the album, consisting of the musical styles of Latin and Spanish: "El Toro Relajo," "Como La Flor," "Tu Solo Tu" and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom."

Dreaming Of You by Selena is a great, fantastic album. It is just very sad that Selena was taken away from us, so tragically. The critics were right: She was going to be huge star. Her fashions are still popular, as they can be found her website, Q-Productions.com. Her music I am sure is also popular, and with her Spanish albums, I would like to learn more, as well as other popular Spanish/Latin artists. Ricky Martin started out with Spanish albums, as this one was reviewed - A Medio Vivir.

"I Could Fall In Love" and the title track are the most significant highlights. The great mix of Pop, (more of) R&B, and Spanish/Latin defines Selena's last album a must to listen to. Again, it's just sad how she lost her life, and we would have enjoyed more of her music and her other activities. Her legacy still continues, decades after her death. The doctors said that if the bullet was lower or higher than where she was originally hit, the gunshot would may have not been severe. Selena was only 23 years old.

Listening to her Spanish albums (before Dreaming Of You would be a great listening experience. Although I will not know what the Spanish lyrics mean, Tejano music sounds quite interesting. Selena was known as the Queen of Tejano music. She will always be a great singer, and will be remembered for her music and other skills she accomplished, in her short life.
