Shooter Jennings (son of Waylon) returns this week, with his second album on the WSVNRadio - Family Man,
released in 2012. (His first reviewed album can be
read here (The Wolf).
It's always been undeciding whether Shooter is Country or Rock, or both.
"The Real Me" is definitely Country, just as his Daddy was. True Country, this is what "Today's Country"
should really sound like. "The Long Road Ahead" sounds like a Country title, and yes, it is definitely
another Country-sounding track. More on Country, as "The Deed And The Dollar" has the Waylon & Willie style.
"Manifesto No. 4" has religious lyrics, and it is also another good Country/Rock track.
Slowing things down (and in a good Country way) is the next track, "Summer Dreams." "Southern Family Anthem"
returns back to the Country/Rock, and it could be easily an Anthem for some. "Daddy's Hands" is another slow paced
tune, and much more pleasant sounding. (Yes, it's Country.) This song kind of reminds me of Arlo Guthrie's or Steve
Goodman's "City Of New Orleans." Likewise, the same can be said (the slow-paced and pleasant) for "The Black
Dog."
"The Family Tree" sure has a great old-fashioned styled Country, and you can even call it Blues too. It has
a style of another Country son, Hank Williams Jr. "Born Again" ends the album, as this track compares to Bruce
Springsteen.
Family Man by Shooter Jennings is a Country album. There isn't one bad track on it. Country and Rock is
heard in greatness. As mentioned in The Wolf review, Waylon would be proud of his son's recordings. Listen to
the Family Man, you will not be disappointed.
