From the most recent years of Rock music, comes the band from Long Beach, California, Rival sons. Formed in 2009, the band's sixth album gets the Album Pick of the Week - Feral Roots. The album achived a #1 hit single, "Do Your Worst" (Billboard's Mainstream Rock Songs. A total of six singles were from the album.

"Do Your Worst" leads it off, and what a great Rock sound it has. It's Led Zeppelin'ish in a way, as if Led Zeppelin were still recording today, this song just may have been there current sound. A great track, regardless. "Sugar On The Bone" is another great track, with a solid rock edge. "Back In The Woods" (second single) is another cutting edge rocker. With another comparison to what-could-be-Led-Zeppelin-updated, with the incredible drumming begining the track, something John Bonham easily could have done. Critics compared "Look Away" (fourth single) to Led Zeppelin III, and yes, it could be another up-to-date Zeppelin track, if they were still recording today - especially the beginning of the song. It then kicks yet into another great rocker. Another band that received the Zeppelin comparison, was Whitesnake. Rival Sons can easily be compared to them as well, on tracks from Feral Roots. And speaking of the title track, it was the album's third single, as it slows down the pace a bit, yet it's another great track.

"Too Bad" (fifth single) returns back to the band's hard rock grit, as this song was nominated for a Grammy, Best Rock Performance. "Stood By Me" is great, straight Rock & Roll. Another Zeppelin'ish comparison (2025) - "Imperial Joy." "All Directions" is another great slow-paced track, it easily fits, and yes, it kicks into gear later - another great Rock edged track. "End Of Forever" keeps it rocking, as always. "Shooting Stars" (sixth single) ends the album, is a very powerful, soulful track. It easily could have been another #1 hit single.

Rival Sons' Feral Roots has the grit, the cutting edge, power; hard rock at its finest. Every track is hard driven, excellent Rock in today's current music. This album was nominated a Grammy (2020) for Best Rock Album. Feral Roots is a must to have. If you're looking for cutting edge Rock, and wondering in today's popular Rock music to listen to, Feral Roots is a great start in discovering Rival Sons. They've released eight studio albums (2009-2023). Give Feral Roots a listen -- you'll be glad you did.
