From the GOODWILL Collection, Carolyn Arends' 1995 release, I Can Hear You gets the review this week. If you
have ever been to your local Goodwill store(s), most likely in the used CDs section, there are many cDs of Christian
artists. Popular Christian artists, and if they're not popular, a simple Google search is done. These not-so-popular
Christian artists may have major label releases. Reunion Records, a well-known and popular Christian label, is the label
in which I Can Hear You was released. So when it's obvious that Carolyn Arends' music has made the Top Contemporary
Christian Albums chart. I Can Hear You reached #37, and it was Arends' debut album. She has releasaed a total of 11
albums, including a Christmas release (1995-2009). Three hit singles were from her debut, "This Is The Stuff," "I Can
Hear You," and "Do What You Do." Also to mention, that if her name isn't as popular as many other U.S. Christian
artists, Carolyn Arends is from Canada. I'm sure her name is well-known to Canadian Christian music fans.
Kicking off the album, is a really good track, "This Is The Stuff." It's obvious, Carolyn Arends' music is
to be listened to, with very impressing results. This is the stuff, that makes Christian music GOOD. It could even
be played on Country playlists. It's easy to learn that this was a hit single. The title track is next, and again,
it's another very good track, and shows her voice is just as good as the many popular female Christian (and Country)
singers. "I Can Hear You" is easily heard as another track that deserved to be another hit single from the album.
"Seize The Day" could have some saying, "Is this Taylor Swift?" (when she was Country) No, but Carolyn Arends can
sing much better than Taylor. This song proves it. "Altar Of Ego" is another well-sung track, it has a happy
sound style, just like others heard previously. "Love Is Always There" is folk (in a way), however, it's another
happy Pop styled track. "Reaching" is more of a ballad, and Carolyn Arends can definitely sing them. "The
Power Of Love" has "the stuff" : Good music, good harmonies; it's another good and happy sounding track. "You Take
My Soul By Storm" could have easily been another hit, on both Christian and Country. It's Christian. It's Country.
It's Rock. "What I Wouldn't Give" is another track that could have been another hit single. Christian, Country,
Rock. It's all there. "Home Fires Burning" is a great easy-to-listen to track; it's laid-back style is great.
And, it can easily fit both the Christian and Country playlists. Ending the album is "All Is Well," a beautiful,
peaceful easy on the ears track. All is well, on this track, as well as the entire album.
Carolyn Arends' debut "I Can Hear You" is definitely an album to enjoy, over and over. She just may have been
more popular in Canada, but give this album a listen, and you could scratch your head, asking, "Why didn't we get to hear
her in the U.S.? One again, getting music from Goodwill proves that there is alot of great talent out there, and
"discovered" from Goodwill. There isn't one bad song on I Can Hear You. You can definitely HEAR the music of
Carolyn Arends shine. I Can Hear You is a gem. A memorable gem. Make it part of your musical memory.
