Steven Curtis Chapman returns this week, with his live album, The Live Adventure, released in 1993. Chapman has achieved many #1 albums (9; Christian).
The Live Adventure was not one of those, however, you would have to admit, that being a very popular artist, he would obviously be a great event to see live.
The Live Adventure captures a live Seattle performance, on May 6, 1993, during his tour for his recent album, The Great Adventure. Most of the songs
are from The Live Adventure, new songs, and songs from past albums.
The opening "Prologue" is a powerful, theatrical (and Classical sounding) -- a great introduction to a live concert. The next two songs are just rockin'
in Christian Rock form: "The Great Adventure" and "That's Paradise" (Both songs from Chapman's The Great Adventure album.
The "Introduction" is a great leadin by Chapman, as he welcomes the crowd, mentions that Jesus is also with them, And, welcoming his audience to a
"Great Adventure." The next song, "Go There With You" was written for his wife, a beautiful song. The next track was from his "For The Sake Of
The Call," "Busy Man" -- another great Christian Rock song. "Great Adventure Stuff" has "The Great Adventure" song, as if it was written
differently. 1) Being from Paducah, Kentucky, Chapman and his band performs "The Great Adventure" as BLUEGRASS! Then, he states that when he was in college,
there was "Real Music." Therefore, the "The Great Adventure" song sounds like JAZZ! After college, he moved to Nashville, so therefore, "The Great
Adventure" sounds COUNTRY! He mentions Polka, but he was kidding... He then leads into a medley of nice, quite tunes. It's an "Acoustic Medley" of
six songs: "My Redeemer Is Faithful And True," "His Eyes," "Waiting For Lightning," "When You Are A Soldier," "Heart's Cry," and "His Strength Is
Perfect." (Very soothing, it has a John Denver feel to it. An awesome medley, 12 minutes in length.)
"Family Man" has Chapman discussing to the audience the family life, including Jesus. "More To This Life" is the title track of his third album
(1989), which was not one of the nine albums that reached #1. It's another beautiful Christian song. The next song was the title track to Chapman's 1990 album,
"For The Sake Of The Call" -- a very nice smooth-sounding blend of great Christian music.
Chapman asks the audience for a slow song, and he tells how the song "I Will Be Here" was created. This song would be released on a future album,
All About Love (2003). Another beautiful song. "My Turn Now"
kicks into another great upbeat Christian Rock song. Ending the album is a song originally from For The Sake Of The Call, "No Better Place."
The convert video was originally released on VHS, and had 4 additional songs, and 2 encore songs. The DVD of the concert would also be released. The concert
video would win the Gospel Music Association award in 1994, for Long Form Music Video of the Year, and the song "Go There With You" won the title of
Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. A third Grammy was won for Chapman, for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. After listening to The Live Adventure,
you can easily tell that this was a very energetic concert. And Chapman's insights and telling his audience his stories, and especially the "Great Adventure
Stuff" was a treat to listen to. On that notion, Chapman can easily be compared to Pop, Adult Contempoary, and Country. (That jazz feel in the "stuff" was
interesting; I'm sure he could turn his Christian lyrics to jazz, if he wanted.) The sounds from his audience also set the mood -- It sure sounded like they were
The Live Adventure is a great live concert album. Steven Curtis Chapman has always been popular in the Christian music genre. Experience a great
concert of great music, endless positivity, and true entertainment. I'm sure the DVD concert is just as exceptional, in listening and viewing this concert.
