Another Greatest Hits compilation this week - this one is by 1980s popular artist, Billy Ocean. He had recordings from the 1970s (as Les
Charles, 1971-1972, Billy Ocean, 1974 to present). It was the 1980s that made him popular, especially with all the songs from this compilation, released
in 1989. Of these 13 tracks from this set, a total of 3 reached #1: Carribbean Queen (No More Love On The RUn)" (1984), "There'll Be Sad
Songs (To Make You Cry)" (1986), and "Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car" (1988). All the others were Top 10 hits, except "Mystery Lady"
(Top 25). "License To Chill" (Top 35), "The Colour Of Love" (Top 20). "Here's To You" was an album track (it wasn't listed in his
list of singles hit). "Tear Down The Walls was the title of one his albums, as the title track was not released as a single in the U.S. "I Sleep
Much Better In Someone Else's Bed" was a non-album track, only found on this Greatest Hits compilation. With the exception of the last 6 songs
mentioned, all of the other songs are easily recognizable hits, for those who remember back then, on Top 40 Radio.
"License To Chill" is a good and catchy tune, just as Ocean's other upbeat popular songs. "Love Zone" has the groove, it's a great
love mood song. "Here's To You" is another beautiful ballad. "I Sleep Much Better In Someone Else's Bed" is one of those common 1980s
upbeat Pop numbers, almost in comparison to that of Bobby Brown, Bell Biv Devoe, DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, and the likes of them. "The
Colour Of Love" -- another ballad, and as I listen to it, I do remember hearing this song get some radio airplay. "Tear Down The Walls" is
another good upbeat track. Ending the album is "Mystery Lady," another good upbeat track.
"When The Going Gets Tough The Tough Get Going" kicks off this set, as this song reached #2. "License To Chill" was a non-album track,
appearing on this Greatest Hits collection, as it reached #32. "Caribbean Queen (No More Love On The Run)""There'll Be Sad Songs (To Make You Cry)" is the next song, as it was another popular hit, reaching #1. "Loverboy" is a catchy
tune, as it reached #2. "Suddenly" is a lovely ballad, as it reached #4. The #1 "Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car,"; this song was a
little hokey for me, although a good song, I liked the others better. "Love Zone" was not as well remembered as others, it reached #10.
The 1980s had good Pop music, and Billy Ocean's music was a part of that. Many of these songs could easily fit the soundtrack to Miami Vice episodes.
It was that kind of sound that made Billy Ocean's music memorable. He recorded more music into the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. Only 3 studio albums were
released by him, in 1993, 2009, and 2013, he released more singles, and new tracks from future Greatest Hits compilations. He also wrote songs
that were recorded by other artists, such as LaToya Jackson, Millie Jackson, Randy Crawford, Bad Boys Blue, Ray, Goodman & Brown, Boyzone, The Dells,
The Nolans, and others. The hard rock band Gwar recorded his "Get Outta My Dreams Get Into My Car" Boyzone recorded his "When The Going Gets
Tough The Tough Get Going." He has achieved many music awards, one presented to him, a Companion of the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
This award was presented to him by Sir Paul McCartney. Currently at 69 years old now, he still continues to tour in Europe.
Billy Ocean's Greatest Hits captures the peak and highlights of his most popular hits, especially from the 1980s decade. A great collection of
his well-known hits and more.
