It's been a long time since we've heard from Georget Thorogood & The Destroyers.
The song that bad them famous, and the title of their album, Bad To The Bone
appeared on WSVNRadio way back in September of 1990. George and his Destroyers would
surface with other well familiar tunes before and after Bone. Yet in 1997,
their release Rockin' My Life Away didn't acheive any major hits, there's one
thing that is true: George Thorogood & The Destroyers don't need any major hits from
their albums -- They know how to Rock, and Rock their Lives Away for us.
"Get Back Into Trouble" is the leadoff track, and another great rockin' song
for GT&D. The next two songs are pretty good, as "Trouble Everyday" and the
late '60s/early '70s Stones-ish "Night Rider." "The Usual" has an
Allman Brothers feel to it, as "Midnight Rider.".
Hee-Haw!! "Living With The Shades Pulled Down" has the typical honky-tonk
Country. "Manhattan Slide" showcases the instrumental guitar work and unique
guitar playing that is easily recognized as George Thorogood. The title track is
a good boogie-woogie, typical rockin' Thorogood number, easily enjoyed by all.
Down and gritty has "Jail Bait." This is one of those songs I can see
and hear Elwood Blues performing. "My Dog Can't Bark" has the "Mystery
Train" atmosphere, slow-driving 3-chord boogie sounds great on "Blues
Hangover," likewise the 3-chord blues boogie is heard on "Stoop Down."
"Rock And Roll Man" is traditional Thorogood -- fast and rockin'.
Rockin' My Life Away is what George Thorrogood does with his life. There
weren't many major songs like "Bad To The Bone" here, but like in all his albums,
they all have that basic Rock & Roll sound, whether it be the 3-chord boogie, or his
distinguised slide guitar, it all amounts to one thing: Geoerge Thorogood & The
Destroyers rock, and they've been doing that for over 30 years now.
