His real name is Robert James Ritchie, (no, he is not the son of Hank Willimas Jr. aka
Hank Williams III, who is another punk/country/rock artist). We know him better as the
rapper/rocker Kid Rock. He acheived #1 status on the albums chart with his 2007 release,
Rock N Roll Jesus. The big hit off this album was "All Summer Long," sampling
Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" (a song that I truthfully do NOT like), and
Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" (a song a trufully ENJOY, like any other Lynyrd
Skynyrd song). Speaking Of "Sweet Home", there is another song medley -- using "Sweet
Home Alabama" and Charlie Daniels' "The Legend Of Willy Swamp." This medley was told
to me, that is was performed by Kid Rock, but I have yet to find this version. If anyone
does know the artist/band performing this particular medley, please email me, and let me
know. Thanks!
The title track kicks off the album, and it is truly one of the best rocking songs
I have heard (in recent times) in a long while. "Amen" is another good easy rocking
song. "Roll On" like it's title, is a good, pleasant, easy rocking song.
"So Hott" is a good hard-rocking tune, and is as hott as the title. "Sugar"
starts out easy and slow, yet it kicks into another hard-rocking driving (and rapping) song.
"When U Love Someone" has a nice updated Country feel. "New Orleans"
is old-fashioned Country, even Southern Rock-ish. "Don't Tell Me U Love Me"
also has the Southern Rock, mixed with a little rap. "Blue Jeans And A Rosary"
is more of a easy-going Country ballad. "Half Your Age" is a good honky-tonk
Country flavor. The bonus track, "Lowlife (Living The Highlife" is another
great rock & roll number.
Rock N Roll Jesus shows that Kid Rock is a God at the forms of Rock, Rap,
Country, and Southern Rock. Having less of the Rap style makes this album even better.
Yet he started out as a punk rapper, Kid Rock has become better with each release.
Pointing more towards Country Rock, Kid Rock can easily be welcomed by the Country and
Rock public, making him a great musician, although his looks could be deceiving.
Yet, it's still Rock & Roll, Kid Rock shows off as Mr. Cool -- just look at the
back cover of Rock N Roll Jesus. As cool as he looks, the album Rock N Roll
Jesus is just as cool as it gets.
