Chris Sligh -- American Idol, Season 6, 10th place, Winner: Jordan Sparks, Runner-Up: Blake Lewis.

This week we look at another contestant from American Idol, Season 6 - Chris Sligh. He is a Christian artist. He has released numerous albums since his appearance on Idol. His latest is from 2019. I was watching Ameridcan Idol pretty regularly back then, and yes, Season 6 was quite good, having many singers to watch, to see how far they would get to be "the next American Idol." (Other finalists that were extremely good were: Blake Lewis (2nd), Melinda Doolittle (3rd), Phil Stacey (6th). Sanjaya Malarkar was another finalist (7th), although maybe not as exceptional as the Top 3; he was getting plenty of recognition from Vote For The Worst, where VFTW would vote for the least favorite contestant. VFTW began in 2004, and ended in 2013. Chris Sligh's official debut album Running Back To You (2008) is this week's pick.

"Arise." "Cry Tonight" and "I'm Clean" are powerful upbeat tunes. "Empty Me" slows down the pace a bit compared to the first 3 tracks, and if you're familiar with Christian Rock music, "Empty Me" easily fits the Christian Rock sound perfectly. "Something Beautiful" simply ROCKS. "Let You Know" is another good rocker. And with all these great rocking (Christian) songs, there has to be a slowed down tune, as "In A Moment" is a great tune for that. "Are You Pleased" is another good song too. "Potential" is another (good) slow-paced track. "Loaded Gun" is not only another good track, but it has a great orchestration - a Classical feel. Another true rocker song gets "Waiting For You." Likewise, "Love Is Raining Down" has a great Rock sound. "Vessel" ends the album, as it's another nice slow-paced tune, with a Classical orchestration. Beautiful.

As I remember, Chris Sligh was one of the standouts from American Idol, Season 6. Although he finished tenth, he could have easily gone up more. He did mention he was happy to be in the Top 10. Listening to Running Back To You proves how he is talented with his singing, and singing of the Christian faith. (He has been in the ministry since an early age.) He began singing in high school, but he grew up listening to Classical, based on his upbringing; his parents were missionaries to Amerian military servicemen. (It's quite obvious about his Classical knowledge; there are songs on Running Back To You that has Classical music involved on some of the tracks.) Since 2011, he has become a worship minister. That year he was hired at Rocky Mountain Christian church in Niwot, Colorado. In 2013, he and his family moved to Austin, Texas, where he became a worship minister for for Shoreline Church. And in 2016, they moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he became the executive reative director at Parkview Christian Church. He left Parkview at the end of the year. Throughout his employment as worship minister, he recorded albums, and as of 2017, he focused on touring and releasing more albumns, and participating on other albums by Christian artists. As of 2023, he is now focused on songwriting.

Running Back To You is a great Christian album. Every song is GOOD. You'll be "running back" to re-listen to this debut album. It is that good.
