Kim Wilde is an English singer, who's cover version of Diana Ross & The Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On" was a #1 hit in 1980s. Her other hits (all on this compilation) were "Chequered Love, "You Came," and "Never Trust A Stranger." These other hits were proably not most remembered in the U.S., although she was more popular in the U.K. These songs and more are all together on The Singles Collection 1981-1993, reviewed this week.

1981: "Kids In America," "Chequered Love," "Water On Glass," "Cambodia" - all have the 1980s Pop, and was most likely played with their videos on MTV. 1982: "View From A Bridge," "Child Come Away" - continues the 1980 Pop, all upbeat, yet "Child Come Away" (another very good track), slows down the pace, and can be compared to another female artist who was a huge part of MTV, Madonna. 1983: "Love Blonde," another Madonna'ish styled track. 1984: "The Second Time" (definitely Madonna), and "Rage to Love" has Madonna meets the Brian Setzer Orchestra style. It's old-fashioned. 1986: Diana Ross & The Supremes' You Keep Me Hangin' On" gets a 1980s update (#1 hit), and for the update, it's a good remake. 1987: "Another Step (Closer To You)" Yep, it's another (good) Madonna comparison. 1988: "You Came," "Never Trust A Stranger," "Four Letter Word" - the first three are all upbeat Madonna'ish sounding tunes, and "Four Letter Word" is more Pop, easily matching the many young females of the 1980s Pop, one such female artist, Debbie Gibson. 1992: "Love Is Holy" - Madonna'ish. 1993: "If I Can't Have You" (a remake, orignally by Yvonne Elliman, written by the Bee Gees for Saturday Night Fever) (it gets a 1980s update), and "In My Life" (not the Beatles song), another Madonna comparison.

1980s Pop, and more like the 1980s Madonna (and another artist of the 1980s, Samantha Fox), Kim Wilde's compilation of The Singles Collection 1983-1991 is a good intro to her music. Her remake of "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is the most memorable, yet her other singles are worth discovering. Her real name is Kim Smith, but we know her best as Kim Wilde. She has recorded albums throughout the 1980s to the 21st Century. Her most current album is to be released in 2025. A good set of her music, if you're a fan of 1980s Pop, and Madonna, this compilation will be worth listening to.
