The Complete WSVNRadio Album Archive
Barbara Mandrell's Ultimate Collection completed the search of all of her Country songs that reached #1 in her career. Her
Greatest Hits was reviewed in 1999. She achieved six
#1 Country songs. From this particular album/review, four of her six #1's were on this complication. All six were included on Ultimate
Collection. Only the song "Wish You Were Here" (from Greatest Hits) was NOT on the Ultimate Collection.
That would make 9 out of 10 songs from Greatest Hits appeared on the 23-track Ultimate Collection. The Ultimate Collection
is obviously the better choice, as it covers Mandrell's career, from 1971 to 1988.
Barbara Mandrell and her sisters would have their own TV show, and, not only did Barbara have an incredible list of great Country songs, she
was very attractive on her looks, and a great Country voice. The #1 songs were obviously remembered, and a few more that were not. Who could not
forget "I Was Country, When Country Wasn't Cool" ... with George Jones, as the lyrics did mention his name. "Sleeping Single In A Double
Bed" was another great song, and of course, and an obvious County songtitle. Other Country songtitles fitting the lyrics of "drinkin' and cheatin"
songs -- "Married But Not To Each Other," "Happy Birthday Dear Heartache," "No One Mends A Broken Heart Like You," "One Of A Kind Pair Of Fools."
And "Crackers" is so humorous -- "You can put crackers under my bed anytime" could easily be compared to the song by Johnny Duncan -- "She Can
Put Her Shoes Under My Bed Anytime."
Although Ultimate Collection covered her peak years to 1988, she continued to record throughout the 1990s. Her most recent studio album was
released in 1997. 25 studio albums and one live album, from 1971 to 1997, and many greatest hits/best of compilations (11). She achieved many awards
for her music, and her children has done very well. Barbara Mandrell is one of the many TRUE Country artists, that you can easily label her music
as good, traditional Country music.
If you're looking for GOOD, TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC... The 1970s and 1980s decades saw many, many good Country artists and their Country music.
Barbara Mandrell was one of many from those 20 years. Her songs are Country classics, especially the ones that reached #1. Some of her original albums
can be found on CD. THe Ultimate Collection is a great intro to her music. It has all the songs her fans remembered best. Barbara Mandrell is
a legend in Country music. She still with us, as she will be 70 years old, on Christmas Day, 2018. She retired in 1997, and was inducted into the
Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009, and a member of the Grand Ole Opry.
